The Art of Tea and Poetry

The Art of Tea and Poetry

Fear

Like stormy, savage seas
churning shaken guts in woozy submission
hanging weak and slack upon the guardrails
of false support's proposition

See-sawing with rolling, resentful waves
in the pounding rain and sleet
Water all around,
Will you drown in defeat?

The ghostly smile of Lies
sifts through confused and arguing thoughts
Whispering two-faced promises
of self-convinced truth tied in knots

This bile of cold poison
seeps in to strangle your heart
Willing, in sneering jest,
for Love's hasty depart

You're standing on this precipice
gripped by foul misgiving
The fulcrum between here and there
Between stagnant Death and wide-eyed Living

Afraid of what lies below
Held tight to this station of deceit
You're glued to this lonely spot
The pirate's plank is an unknown street

Yet beneath you nudges that other choice
Can you have faith in the wide open sea?
Will you allow for surrender; let go
Discover what more there might be

To swathe yourself in the patient blue brine
Feel the power of the waves' sacred hymn
Bequeathed with Bravery's impassioned grace
Dare to know that you can swim?

It's a coin toss in this moment
of foreign invitation
If you should slide into the swell
Buoyed by a new inclination

Love's truth is quiet and serene
Slow your breath to adjust
For Lies bleed out in the dawn
And the secret of courage is Trust.

Leah Colliou McKay

Leah Colliou McKay was born on a dark and stormy night. Fascinated always by the Human Condition, poetry has flowed from the mind and heart of this lady since the age of seven, when the discovery of words became not just an exercise in education, but a faithful friend. Spirituality, tarot cards, whiskey and wine, laughter, not wearing socks or shoes, and music of all persuasions are just a few of her favourite things. Recently, she has fallen onto an incredible new path, inspired by divorce and the extraordinary community of homeless angels she now works with and for. Life has truly begun to divulge profound meaning with real, beautiful and amazing tales yet to be told!
